Start with a workload you can describe

Fabric Master is an independent planning tool. Its result is a heuristic estimate, not a Microsoft quote, a load test, or a guarantee of performance. Begin with one workload: for example, a nightly import followed by a morning reporting period. Record the source volume, job schedule, measured runtimes, and report usage separately. Do not enter a company secret merely to make the scenario realistic.

Run an illustrative comparison

Open the sizing wizard and retain the original inputs. Suppose your team has 20 active report readers at peak time and a batch job that runs outside that peak. Create one scenario with the normal schedule and another with the job overlapping the reporting period. The difference explores the tool's assumptions; it does not measure actual consumption. A predicted larger capacity should prompt a scheduling or measurement question before a purchase.

Check the result against evidence

Read the assumptions accompanying the recommendation. Compare the proposed tier with the observed workload in the Capacity Metrics app. Keep capacity size, Power BI viewer licensing, and Copilot eligibility as separate questions. Paid F2 or higher can be eligible for Copilot with the required settings and region; F64 or higher is relevant to organizational free-user Power BI viewing with appropriate access.

Before acting

Confirm currency, region, active hours, reservation terms, storage, and user-license costs using official sources. Save the input scenario and calculation date so a colleague can reproduce the estimate. If the recommendation changes substantially when an uncertain input changes slightly, gather better evidence first. Run a representative pilot, record throttling and refresh outcomes, and define a rollback plan before using the result to change production capacity.
